Design Thinking, LEAN UX & Agile

Design Thinking is for everyone! The first part of my process brings together stakeholders, product owners, business analysts, developers and designers to hash out high-level business goals based on market needs. The design thinking stage helps establish Agile’s Initiative and Theme charters, giving an organisation the “blue sky” version of what a product/module could be.

And the other part of my process is very much a combination of LEAN UX & sprints. Accuracy and speed. By involving every team member from development & product, designers get a better understanding of the problem-to-be-solved from multiple angles, to quickly iterate with implementation feasibility in mind, get feedback from customers prior to development to minimise risk and cost of build and finally more tests and analysis upon delivery for further improvement. Rinse and repeat.

 
 

Atomic Design by Brad Frost

This has been my go-to UI methodology, delivering design in a systematic and structural yet fluid way. Coupled with WCAG2.1 compliance and data architecture & hierarchy, the Atomic Design Methodology delivers design elements in it’s simplest form, merging into components that give meaning and depth onto templates across multiple platforms with consistency and stands the test of time!

Summary

Modern day designers should be viewed as the glue that binds the business to its clients, the go-to-person that translates business vision for developers to actualise and as expert negotiators. We are here to help minimise costs, increase customer loyalty and optimise productivity. Design is flexible, scalable, measurable and it definitively adds value to a business.
